| With growing restrictions on tobacco advertising in the UK, brands
such as Silk Cut and Benson and Hedges elevate creativity to a new
level with their ground-breaking surrealist campaigns. Platform shoes,
hot pants, stretch denim, mini skirts and Mary Quant iridescent make-up
combine to keep the female fashion scene vibrant. The first Cosmopolitan
magazine is published in the UK. Jason King look-alikes sport curly
moustaches, jazzy waistcoats, wide flares and kipper ties in our vintage
advertisements, and probably smell strongly of aftershave such as
Brut, Old Spice or YSL. A more extensive range of convertible sports
cars completes the playboy image. Guinness turns its attention to
attracting the female market, the Marlboro cowboy becomes a global
icon and Coca-Cola continues to fight off competition from Pepsi as
the top soft drinks brand. |
