| The First World War dominated this decade and Lord Kitchener inspired
the British to volunteer to help fight. Meanwhile Emily Pankhurst
and her Suffragettes strove to obtain equal rights for women and The
Titanic became the most amazing ship and the worst disaster of its
age. Many of the brand names that graced our homes are still thriving
today such as Royal Baking Powder, McDougall’s flour, Hovis
bread, Colman’s mustard, Pyrex dishes, Kellogg’s cereal,
Brillo pads, Lea and Perrin’s sauce, Pear’s soap, Lux
washing powder and Wrigley’s chewing gum. We danced to records
played on His Master’s Voice gramophones, took photos with our
new Kodak cameras, shopped in Harrods and drove our Harley Davidson
motorbikes. |
